Mad Scientist! GPP Crusade 53

Michelle Ward's Street Team Challenges for the summer have been educational, relaxing, and offer insight into our own color choices.  The previous challenge was 'Seasonal WARDrobe', urging us to explore our color choices throughout the year and ask, as the seasons change--does our palette change with them?  My challenge 52 is on a previous post.

'Mad Scientist' asks that we review a few of the color blends in our previous works to see what they are comprised of, and then name them.  I love this exercise!  I am constantly blending colors, making marbled-pattern surfaces for collage or mixed media.  When there's marbling going on, it's a bit more challenging breaking down the composite colors and naming them, but I like the idea of seeing the place where all the colors come together as its own color.  Naming my own blends (and looking toward repeating them) gives my work an extra layer of individuality.

Here is a scrap I made sure to save for myself after sending out some cards:

This was painted with gold Luminarte Twinkling H2Os pigment powder and red craft paint.  I love combining paints on a wet surface before doodling or collaging on them.  Although the gold and the red carry their own names from the manufacturer, I am naming them thus:

Sunrise Sand

Inner Hibiscus

Sunrose (blend)

Here is another blend from my stash:

These are colors I often combine (blue and green).  In this instance, I used a green and a turquoise in an acrylic craft paint brand, and added a white Luminarte H2O pigment powder.

The elements of this blend, with names of my own concocting, are:

Chayote Squash

Tea of Cyan

Baby Powder

Cloud Cover (blend)

Lastly (for this exercise), this blend from my stash is comprised of three predominant craft paint colors--blue, goldenrod, and white.

I break them down here as follows:

Buttershot Schnapps

Cobalt-A-Go-Go

Moss on the South Side (blend)

What I found cool about the second and third blend is that they contain colors that are very similar, but resulted in a very different marbled effect.  This practice of naming my own colors is one I'm going to find very easy to live with.

You can always play along with the Street Team!  Even if you haven't worked with Crusades 52 or 53 yet, you can catch up!  And I'll be working on 54 next.  That'll teach me!

Note:  Chris reserves the right to change her names at any time, however, please don't call her Shirley.

  1. I like the Luminarte Twinkling H2Os pigment effect, especially the sunrise sand. The Tea of Cyan seems 'delicious' too.

  4. Chris - I love how you've presented this challenge. Fun to see your marbling as a whole, and how you've broken down the basic colors and blends, and have named and renamed with your personal selections from your often diabolical mind. LOVE Tea of Cyan. Hmmm...what color would diabolical be? I'm leaning toward blue, in the purple-ish way. How about you take on that as an assignment for No. 54 to get you started? Thanks for sharing with the team!
