Oh, wasn't it FUN!?
We went to the Tim Burton Exhibit at the L.A. County Museum of Art. It was PACKED full of people. Apparently, they told other people about this, too. They even had brochures printed up.
I thought I'd show you some photos of the exhibit, which photos I took before I was told we weren't allowed to take photos.
Actually, I never take photos at museums, and I had left my digital camera at home because I just wanted to travel light.
However, I did have my smart phone with me and I was browsing around looking at the loveliness, when I saw someone taking photos with her iPhone. And I meandered around amid the crush of people, and then I saw two other people looking at the photos they'd just taken with their phones. And I said to myself, 'Okay, I'll take a few, but I'm not going to get so wrapped up in photos that I don't actually SEE the exhibit!'
Because, isn't it true sometimes, that you take photos of an event, and feel afterward as if you kind of missed things? I didn't want that to happen.
But I figured I might as well take a few to remember the exhibit by. You can see that I spent a lot of time making sure I showcased the works meticulously.
If anyone is contemplating seeing this exhibit, it's on for another week, and it's awesome! We got the audio tour also, and it enriched the experience, but it certainly isn't necessary. Burton's work speaks for... well, itself. Included is a vast array of his illustrations. There are light boxes here and there showing slideshows of his pieces. Videos of his first film endeavors are included. And there are sculptures by other artists, bringing his characters to three glorious dimensions. It's so... BEAUTIFUL!
Next up: Chris discovers that, while it might be unethical to post images from the exhibit (because if people see them here they won't want to pay for the milk later), but for some reason she just can't figure out how to cancel all the pictures and so she just leaves them here, even though they are all out of focus, catty-cornered, distorted, fuzzy, and vertiginous.

The exhibit looks wonderful, thanks for sneaking in a few shots.
ReplyDeleteWOW how lucky you got to see such an amazing collection of his work!!
ReplyDeleteI totally "get you" about the photography. I find myself practically missing live performances because I'm so wrapped up with my camera! Sometimes its just better to enjoy and remember...

well, maybe a little fuzzy, but are you sure it's not just the stripes on that woman's bustier? (not sure that's the right word, but boy are they pointy!) Burton's work is gorgeous and I am jealous that you got to see it! thanks for sharing a peek with us.
