Halloween Party (and Tale of Terror)!!

Welcome to all!  As you probably know, Vanessa, of A Fanciful Twist, is hosting her fourth annual Halloween Party.  This is my favorite Blog Party of the year!

In keeping with the Festivities, I'm sharing this sweet little tale of innocence and adventure, starring a delightful little Dotee Doll created by my lovely friend Carrie.  This Dotee has always been an explorer, but I fear this time, Dotee has gotten into a bit of trouble...

I'll let Dotee tell you all about it.

Even though I'm just a little Dotee Doll, I love to walk in the woods. I love the purple sky just before dusk. The trees are still, and make mysterious shapes on the ground in the low light…

But this time, I stayed in the woods too long. The magic of the quiet and misty woods made me lose all track of time, and soon, it was very, very dark.

I knew I had to make it home to my Dotee house soon. But the more I walked amid the trees, the more I got turned around. It started to feel almost like I was in a trance, as I spun around the woods and the shadows created waves and circles around and around…

Suddenly, I realized I was completely disoriented. It had gotten later and later, and I could hear the night creatures begin to stir. I smelled the musk of the carpet of leaves under my Dotee feet. I heard the skittering of moist little paws on crackling twigs. And then, when I was making my way on yet another winding path to try to get home, I met Vampira.

She wore bloodstones on her throat and her companions crawled along the folds of her gown. Without a word, she grabbed me and led me deeper into the darkness. I hoped she wouldn't get me into her lair, because I knew I would never escape.

However, once she had led me to this grand and ornate mausoleum, I turned around and Vampira had vanished.

I knew for sure that she had led me to my doom. My little Dotee heart pounded in my little Dotee body.

Without any sense of how to get home, I hoped that someone beyond the mausoleum's gates would be able to help me. I managed to pull one of the creaking gates open and get inside. But I saw no living soul except one.

Photo borrowed from google images years ago and now I can't remember where.

And that one was in dreadful trouble, indeed.

I turned and ran back through the gate in the direction I'd come, and the stone tiles of the mausoleum became a checkered path that widened before me as though it would never stop. I began to feel dizzy from the sight of the checkerboard spread before me.

It was truly the most horrifying feeling I'd ever known. I ran and ran, completely unaware that I'd eventually left all the squares behind, until suddenly…

I came upon the shuddering, firey presence of a real, live, witch. She was huge, glowing, and her wild cackle made me shiver to my Dotee bones!!

She said, 'There you are! Just the sort of treat I need for feeding my precious pet!!'

The witch grabbed me, and pulled me along with her. And before I could take a breath or make a sound…

…she entrapped me in her monstrous web!! I struggled to get out of her web, but the more I struggled, the more I could feel something in the web moving, moving… closer and closer. I was unable to scream or even to think in my little Dotee mind. WHAT?! WHAT can I DO?!

Isn't this horrible?!

This little Dotee doll could certainly use your help, don't you think?

All you have to do to help the Dotee doll is to leave your favorite, most terrifying word in a comment below, and all the comments will be thrown into the witch's boiling caldron, where they will all be cooked to their essence.  One perfect word will fly out of the caldron on October 31, and the little Dotee's horrifying spell will be broken!

The contributor of the winning word will receive a different Dotee doll of their very own!  (Just remember to make sure that we have a way to contact you after the drawing.)

Now, continue the party by visiting all the wonderful stories listed over at Vanessa's place!

  1. Oh my Gawwwwwwwd, what a brilliant post!! I love this, and ADORE the picture-story to acompany it - all your amazing creations - and that photo collage of your little poochie there is hysterical! I made a benign voodoo-doll once, it only enables stuff such as flat feet or bad breath to befall the victim, actually, I think I might post it up, since you've reminded me how close Halloween is!

A word? Ummmmmmmm, let me think..

    Pustulating, that makes me shudder!

  3. Dotee Doll, I'm lighting a candle and focusing on a word so I can send it to you. I know you are scared, but you have to clear your mind or this won't work. Okay, here it goes. Think pumpkins, apple cider, jack-o-lanterns, my Mamá's Pan de Muertos, and broom, then with your mind (yep, you don't even have to talk) scream: PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trust me, with all those images in your mind and screaming PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!! will sure bring a bunch of witchy partiers to your rescue!

    Happy Fanciful All Hallow's Eve!

P.S. I love the decorations of your cyber home ;-)

  16. Thank you so much for such a fun and spooky post for Vanessa's party. And thank you from the bottom of my heart for your thoughts about my mother. It really means so much to me.

I do have a favorite scary word! It is "slither"! I think it's scary because of snakes (eeek!), but also because there is a passage in Bram Stoker's original book "Dracula" where the count turns into a lizard and slithers up the wall! I worked in a bookstore and one of my co-workers would read this part aloud and then make some sort of slither-y noise and give me goosebumps!

    Wishing you a beautiful night,

    Betty

  23. Heh, what a cool story, err I mean scary, actually I was spinning out when it got to that checkered floor, boy I had to fold on to my eosophagai! And let me tell you, that was uncomfortable (they are dried egyptian ones with pointy bits)

Okay, the scaryiestest mostest terrifyingest word I can think of is 'love handles"!

To be used in spells such as "Out damn witch! I throw my love handles in your general direction! So there!"

greetings from oz :) I think it's halloween here tonight? I must go and buy some fruit to give the kids.... :)
