I've made my first Christmas stocking.
My first one! I've never made one before this one!
I started out making a fabric stocking, and trying to quilt it without knowing what I was doing. That was a disaster. No, really! And I realized that if I actually saw that to its completion, it would be my first Christmas stocking, and I just couldn't let that happen.
So I had a bright idea to make my stocking out of felt. It would be soft and warm, but not lined, quilted, or have any extravagent stitches. It would just be... festive!
And here it is, front and back.
Now I'm thinking I'm going to add a few things before I send it out. Even a humble little sock needs as much bling as possible, don't you think? Well... we'll see.
If you want a chance to win this little felty, which is not so much functional (won't hold anything heavy) as decorative, please leave a comment on this post! On December 5, one commentor will win this baby, just in time to hang up somewhere with the other holiday decorations. I think it would even be nice with some lovely-smelling potpourri or some dried herbs inside it.
If you want to see some of the other stockings offered up in this year's Christmas Stocking Giveaway, zip over here, and scroll down to the link list at the bottom of Robin's post.

I'm always amazed by people who can sew little patches on things. I sewed a patch on the knee of my jeans once but then I found out I couldn't get my leg through it because I'd sewed the front of the leg to the back. Oh well, I suppose you aren't going to put your foot in that stocking anyway so never mind ...
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet, would look great on my tree. Good Luck everyone.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh definitely put my name in! I love your stocking! Turquoise is after all my favorite color! and i just love the overall design and the whimsical embellishments.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you used a different color on each side! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI think your first stocking looks terrific! It's OK if it won't hold anything heavy. When my kid's stockings are full I place them under the tree. That way I can stuff them with whatever I want and not worry about the weight.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the stocking give-away!

ReplyDeleteStep away from the bling. That stocking is so adorable as is. And if you insist on giving it to me I will gladly take it. But not until December!
